Our client is a leading international law firm seeking a dynamic and strategic Business Development Manager to join its Sydney office and support its growing business development efforts across the Asia Pacific region. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving business growth, enhancing client relationships, and promoting the firm’s brand in key sectors including Finance, Insolvency & Restructuring, Commercial Disputes, and Financial Services.
This position requires a hands-on, proactive approach to business development, with a focus on strategy execution, client targeting, and managing BD initiatives across the region. As part of a 20-strong Asia Pacific Business Development team, you will collaborate closely with lawyers and partners in the Sydney office and across the APAC region to support the firm’s growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic BD Leadership: Provide strategic BD advice and operational support to the Australian-based Finance, Insolvency & Restructuring, and Commercial Disputes teams, as well as the APAC Financial Services sector team.
- Client Development: Identify new business opportunities, expand existing client relationships, and enhance the firm’s presence in the Asia Pacific market.
- Market Profiling & Branding: Develop and execute initiatives to elevate the firm’s brand in key sectors and geographies through market-facing activities such as sponsorships, events, through leadership, and media engagement.
- Proposal & Capability Statements: Lead and support the preparation of proposals, credential statements, and marketing materials to secure new business.
- Team Management: Manage, mentor, and support 1-2 direct reports, fostering a collaborative and high-performing BD team.
- Event Management: Oversee Sydney-based events and provide guidance on execution and delivery.
- Internal Collaboration: Work closely with global and regional BD colleagues to ensure alignment of strategies, share market intelligence, and drive firm-wide initiatives.
- BD Operations & Reporting: Manage the BD budget, track expenses, and ensure activities align with strategic objectives to deliver measurable outcomes.
- Client Relationship Management: Support client relationship programs, including the management of key client plans, and collaborate with Client Relationship Partners (CRPs) to drive client retention and development.
Who should apply:
You will demonstrate prior success having worked in BD and strategic marketing in legal or professional services. You will bring experience of managing and mentoring junior team members. You will have a strong knowledge of Australian marketing with broader APAC market knowledge considered advantageous. Additional experience in the core sectors the firm specializes in (Financial Services, Real Estate, Technology, Science and Industry) would be seen as highly desirable. You will bring a demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, articulate and confident way and effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels. A strategic mindset with the ability to problem solve and manage multiple priorities is essential.
