BD Lead – ASEAN

Our client is a global, industry-leading law firm with a culture built on collaboration, diversity, and continuous personal and professional development. They are seeking a Business Development (BD) Lead to join their ASEAN and broader APAC business development team. This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of the ASEAN strategy, playing a pivotal role in shaping and executing business development initiatives across the ASEAN offices.

As BD Lead, you will focus on driving business growth, building strong client relationships, and position the firm as a market leader in ASEAN.
You will collaborate closely with regional leadership and partners to develop and implement business development strategies tailored to the ASEAN market. The role will require a deep understanding of ASEAN-specific legal, commercial, and regulatory environments to drive client retention, growth, and expansion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Business Planning: Partner with regional leadership and office managing partners to shape and implement client-focused business development strategies for the ASEAN market. Track progress and provide guidance to partners on their business plans to ensure their alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Client Relationship Management: Develop and manage a Client Relationship Management (CRM) program for priority clients in ASEAN. Act as the key contact for strategic client relationships, coordinating BD efforts and initiatives across the firm.
  • Client Listening: Facilitate the firm’s client feedback program for key clients. Work with BD colleagues to ensure feedback is acted upon, strengthening client relationships and driving business growth.
  • Market and Practice Expertise: Stay up-to-date on industry trends, economic drivers, and developments within ASEAN markets. Conduct market and client research to support business planning and identify emerging opportunities.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and mentor BD team members, ensuring high-quality work and consistent delivery of business development initiatives. Foster a collaborative team environment and drive the value of the BD team across ASEAN offices.
  • Continuous Improvement: Promote best practices within the BD team, incorporating new technologies, processes, and approaches to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of BD operations.
  • Pitching & Pursuits: Lead and oversee strategic pitches, proposals, and other client-focused initiatives. Contribute to the firm’s global BD strategy by providing the ASEAN market perspective.

You will bring a deep understanding of client relationship strategies and methods, with a demonstrated track record of driving client retention and growth. Broad experience across business development, marketing, and client relationship management, including advising and executing senior-level BD initiatives is essential. You will be a strategic thinker and adviser with a proven success in efforts that drive client acquisition and retention. You will be an excellent team player, able to work cross-functionally and build strong relationships with internal stakeholders. An in-depth knowledge of ASEAN markets, including legal, regulatory, and business nuances, and an ability to identify and act on market opportunities is crucial.
